[Vol97].
Basic shape and color information of an image are represented using a
multiresolution wavelet decomposition.
A preprocessing step include a rescaling of the image to a square thumbnail of
pixels and a transformation of the thumbnail colors from the
RGB space to Luv space.
Next, a non-standard two-dimensional Haar wavelet transform is performed on
each color channel individually, followed by a truncation of the resulting
coefficients.
Only the coefficients larger than a threshold are retained and after rounding
to integer values they are stored in a feature vector.
A query is submitted by giving an example image.
The distance measure between two feature vectors is a weighted Euclidean
distance, with different weights for each of the resolution levels in the
wavelet decomposition.
